Frequently asked questions
Can I host a GPS Enduro Race in my area?
Well, that depends. Answer these three simple questions...
- Does the GPS map of my local mountain bike trail network look like a plate of spaghetti?
- Is there a strong group of local riders in my area who are keen on entering the future of mountain bike racing?
- Are the land owners in your area likely to let you ride all over their God-given land without promising your firstborn child?
If you said “Yes” to all of the above, then let’s get in touch. Email us at info@gpsenduroracing.com
Which trails are off-limits?
Great question. Closed trails, those in Mountain View Park, and non-sanctioned trails are all off limits. This includes (but is not limited to) Pink Starfish, Bookwus, Lower Gryphon Switchbacks, Imonator, St. George’s, GMG, Groovula, 38DD, Air Supply, etc.).
Mileage attained on closed trails will not count toward cumulative totals.
What if I get lost?
We have you on satellite. We’ll come find you.
What if it rains?
This is the North Shore. We ride in the rain, but take it easy through the puddles. Yes, you will get wet.
Can I access race data after the event?
Yes, your real-time progress and results will be posted on the flaikTM website so you can review your results and share them with your friends. We encourage trash talking both before and after the race. For best results, be sure to not only talk smack, but back it up with your riding.
How accurate is the data?
Using GPS and GSM technology and a very powerful tag device, the flaikTM tracking system is extraordinarily accurate, even under heavy tree cover.
Do I need any special gear for the event?
No, we provide you with a tracking device. All you need is normal riding gear suitable for a day on Mt. Fromme. We’ll take care of the technology.
How did it happen?
We didn’t set out to create a new concept in mountain bike racing - it occurred organically over many rides. Consideration revolved around the question...”What is my ideal bike race?”
The answer?
- A race that includes lots of challenging terrain. I want to ride as many cool trails and as little pavement as possible.
- A race that would not involve riding the same trail over and over again. I get bored easily.
- A race where off road riding would decide who wins and loses. If I’m gonna get beat, then I want the other racers to suffer, too.
- A race that is not over too quickly. Why bust a nut to cross the finish line and spend as little time in the saddle as possible? That doesn’t make sense to me.
- A race that looks a lot like the perfect, big, long Saturday kinda ride that I dream about all week. A race that comes complete with friends, lively competition, trash talk, amazing trails, and good memories.
Put all this together and you have the GPS Enduro Racing format, as seen in the North Shore Overlord. A race concept that is the perfect union of competition, technology, endurance, off road riding, and fun.
ADDED BONUS - PORTABILITY!
This race concept can be held anywhere there is a substantial trail network and sympathetic land owners. Let’s talk about how the GPS Enduro Racing concept can fit into your neighbourhood.
